Sunday

Thought for the Day – BE A BASTARD, STOP MESSING UP DRUIDS

Race 3 – a poor start was quickly overcome by me fighting my way back to 6th.  However I soon found myself being forced off track at Graham Hill bend but luckily I kept the bike sunny side up and after a major detour over the grass and gravel I managed to safely rejoin the track to finish in 10th.

Race 4 – with suspension now sorted but my rear tyre completely knackered this was never going to be my best race.  It was however the most fun and saw me battling hard with Andrew Scott for 9th position which I eventually took.

Aims for next round - get on the podium.

Special Thanks to:

Tipsy Baillie for his photography, encouragement to crash and help with heavy lifting

Mum and Dad for coming to support me and to Dad for sorting out my suspension settings and spotting the patented Argaum Suspension Travel Limiter

Trevor Shillito for braving the cold to offer his support

That’s right its finally happened Round 1 is here.  I have been in a motorbike race and survived!!

After getting to the track early on Friday and getting setup in the lower paddock I was finally convinced that all my preparation and planning had not been in vain and that the weekend would go smoothly.  Until I tried to plug in my extension lead, what’s this square plug round hole?  Who knew that race tracks like campsites have electrical hook-ups and not domestic plug sockets............turns out everyone knew but me.  We got the problem solved in the end but it did mean me going out on cold tyre for my first practise session which combined with a badly setup bike meant a pretty hard time for the tyre.

The rest of Friday went well though and gave me an opportunity to adjust the preload on the bike in just 2 simple steps:

Saturday

Thought for the Day – DON’T CRASH

Qualifying – this was a short manic session which basically involved putting 52 people on a track for 5 minutes and telling them to go as fast as they can.  Some are rookies doing 1:12 laps and some are experts doing 0:53 laps.  I was somewhere in the middle scared and feeling out of my depth.  However I did something right as I managed to qualify 6th on the grid.

Race 1 – After getting a good start I suddenly found myself lapping in 3rd.  Unfortunately it only lasted a couple of laps as I got overtaken going into Druids and then had a big slide at Clearways.  This resulted in me firstly sh*tting myself and secondly losing touch with the leaders to finish the race in 5th.

Race 2 – A poor start from 5th on the grid and still having major suspension issues (got to get those excuses in) meant a not so enjoyable race but still a very respectable 7th place finish.

Aims for Tomorrow - Get better at Druids and generally stop being so nice on track and giving people so much space.
